Brook Bank Clay Shooting Ground, established in 1982 and managed by the expert husband-and-wife team of Wesley and Alison Hann, stands as one of the UK’s premier shooting venues. Situated at the foot of the picturesque Mendip Hills in Somerset, it is the only ground in the county recognized by the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) to offer such a diverse array of disciplines. The venue is renowned for its professional yet welcoming atmosphere, making it a top choice for both local enthusiasts and international-level athletes.
The facility features a comprehensive range of shooting layouts designed to challenge every level of ability. From simulated game and English Sporting to more technical trap and skeet disciplines, the targets are set against the stunning backdrop of the Cheddar Valley. Infrastructure includes a luxury heated log cabin, a snack bar serving Italian coffee and home-cooked food, and full accessibility for disabled shooters, ensuring a comfortable experience regardless of the weather.
A defining feature of Brook Bank is the on-site expertise of co-owner Wesley Hann. A former England Captain and a master gunsmith who served his apprenticeship in Birmingham's famous Gun Quarter, Wesley provides professional gun-fitting and repair services. This technical focus ensures that shooters can not only practice their aim but also fine-tune their equipment for peak performance, a service that has helped train elite shooters like Olympic medalist Ed Ling.
For those new to the sport, Brook Bank offers a dedicated "Have-a-Go" experience. These fully inclusive packages provide novices with a shotgun, cartridges, and a professional instructor to guide them through the basics of safety and target hitting in a relaxed environment. More experienced shooters can book private one-hour lessons to master specific disciplines or correct technical errors, with prices starting from £60 per hour.
The ground operates under a specific cartridge policy to maintain high standards and environmental safety. From Wednesday to Saturday, shooters are required to use only Hull or Fiocchi brand cartridges, which are available on-site at competitive prices. On Sundays, during registered CPSA competitions, these restrictions are typically relaxed. Additionally, the venue is a popular choice for corporate events, offering tailored weekday packages that include full catering and private use of the facilities.
