Hawley Clay Shooting Ground is a premier, family-friendly facility nestled in the Kent countryside near Dartford. It is strategically located for easy access from London and the South East via the M25, M20, and A2. The ground is widely recognized for its welcoming atmosphere, where both absolute beginners and seasoned shooters can practice without the pressure of traditional "club snobbery".
The facility’s defining feature is the weekly rotation of its 80-bird English Sporting layout. Spread across 8 stands, the course is redesigned every week to ensure that regular shooters always face fresh challenges. In addition to Sporting clays, the ground offers specialized disciplines including Compak, English Skeet, and high-intensity Flush sessions, often used for group entertainment.
Training and accessibility are core to the ground's mission. Led by expert instructors like Andy, the "Have a Go" experiences are specifically designed for those who have never handled a shotgun before. These sessions include a full safety briefing, equipment hire, and professional tuition. The ground is inclusive of juniors (typically from age 8 or 10+) and offers lighter-recoil shotguns for women and young shooters.
Beyond clay pigeon shooting, Hawley has evolved into a multi-activity hub. The site features a 50-yard airgun range, as well as facilities for archery, axe throwing, and crossbow experiences. This variety makes it a popular choice for corporate team-building, stag and hen parties, and family days out.
Sundays are dedicated to both practice and friendly competition. Shooters are categorized into A, B, and C classes based on skill level, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to win cash or cartridge prizes. The terrain itself is set within wooded surroundings, providing natural shelter from the wind while creating challenging visual angles for incoming and outgoing targets.
The onsite infrastructure is designed for practical comfort, featuring a large hard-standing parking area and a mobile catering unit serving hot English breakfasts and beverages. A covered seating area allows visitors to rest or observe other shooters regardless of the weather, maintaining a social and vibrant environment throughout the weekend.
