Dovey Valley Shooting Ground is a premier clay pigeon shooting and target sports center located within the private 1,000-acre Brynmelin Estate in North Wales. Family-run for over 60 years, the facility was originally established by Hugh Jones and is currently managed by Richard Jones. It is renowned for its unique natural topography, utilizing the steep, wooded valleys to create challenging target presentations that mimic real game birds.

The facility features a vast sporting layout with more than 100 different target variations and stands to accommodate everyone from total novices to professional shooters. Key disciplines available at the ground include:

  • English Sporting: Over 60 stands integrated into the hills and woodland.

  • Skeet, Down The Line (DTL), and Automatic Ball Trap (ABT): Specialized areas for practice and competition.

  • High Towers: Capable of presenting "high birds" at extreme heights for advanced training.

  • Archery: A dedicated range offering one-hour supervised sessions.

Technological integration is a major feature, highlighted by the implementation of the ClayMate "Pay and Play" system, allowing shooters with a license to enjoy the grounds at their own pace. The ground is equipped with professional automatic traps from world-leading brands Laporte and Promatic, ensuring precision and reliability in all weather conditions.

Training is a core pillar of the ground, supported by a school of professional instructors that includes world-class Olympic-level coaches. Beginners can take advantage of "Have A Go" packages, while seasoned shooters can book caddied rounds for bespoke skill sharpening. Available training formats include:

  • Individual & Shared Lessons: Tailored coaching for all experience levels.

  • Young Shots: Specialized training programs for children and teenagers.

  • Simulated Game Training: Specialized tuition for game shooters preparing for the season.

The site is a frequent host for high-level competitions, most notably the BASC.410 World Championships, which draws competitors from across the UK to test their skills with the smallest gauge shotgun. Beyond sport, Dovey Valley is famous for its Simulated Game Days, which offer a full day of hospitality—including bacon rolls, champagne "elevenses," and home-cooked lunches—while shooters face thousands of clays across the Welsh mountains.

Infrastructure for visitors is comprehensive, featuring a licensed on-site café known for high-quality food and a well-stocked Gun Room for equipment sales and accessories. The grounds are highly accessible, providing free parking for large coaches and a designated helicopter landing area for corporate or VIP groups.
