Bywell Shooting Ground, established in 1980, is a premier clay pigeon shooting destination set on a working arable farm in the heart of the Northumberland countryside. It holds the prestigious "Premier Plus" status from the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA), an elite distinction shared by only 20 grounds across the United Kingdom. Managed by the Fawcett family, the facility seamlessly combines world-class sporting infrastructure with a welcoming, family-run atmosphere suitable for novices and professionals alike.
The technical layout of the ground is extensive, featuring 12 Down The Line (DTL) layouts—expandable to 16 for major championships—6 Automatic Ball Trap (ABT) layouts, 4 Skeet layouts, and numerous English Sporting stands. The facility utilizes the Promatic Claymate (Multipull) system, allowing for a flexible "pay-and-play" experience.

Unique Features: A 90-foot high tower for grouse and high-pheasant simulation and fully automated Promatic traps.
The ground is renowned for its challenging terrain, characterized by wide, open vistas that provide few visual points of reference. This landscape tests a shooter's "range finding" abilities more than typical wooded grounds. Due to the open nature of the Northumbrian climate, visitors are advised to wear layered clothing that allows for an unrestricted shooting stance regardless of unpredictable weather.
Professional instruction is a cornerstone of Bywell, led by Head Coach Sandy Burn, a Scottish international shooter. Training is highly personalized, focusing on incremental improvements to a shooter's natural style rather than forced changes.
Training Formats: Individual "One-to-One" lessons, group sessions, and specialized "Game Changer" courses for field preparation.
Levels: Comprehensive programs for absolute beginners, including "Have a Go" packages, up to advanced coaching for competitive athletes.
Bywell boasts one of the largest on-site Gunrooms in the UK, stocking hundreds of new and pre-owned shotguns from elite brands like Beretta, Browning, and Krieghoff. They offer a unique "made-to-measure" service, including accompanied trips to the Perazzi factory in Italy for custom gun fitting.
