Eston Clay Target Club

Eston, South Africa

Eston Clay Target Club, established in 2004 following the relocation of the Durban Gun Club, is a premier shooting facility in KwaZulu-Natal and the only club in the province affiliated with the Clay Target Shooting Association of South Africa (CTSASA). Nestled within the grounds of the historic Beaumont Eston Farmers Club, it serves as a central hub for both the local community and competitive shooters from across South Africa, providing a professional yet social atmosphere for the sport.

The club features a comprehensive array of shooting disciplines supported by modern automated traps and voice-release systems, many of which were modernized following the closure of the Riva Valley Club. This technical infrastructure ensures a high-standard experience for both practice and professional competition.

Shooting Disciplines Available:

  • Sporting (conducted across 4 different ranges)

  • ATA and DTL (Down-the-Line) Trap

  • Skeet and Skeet Doubles

  • Universal Trench (UT)

Professional development is a core pillar of the club, with qualified coaches providing instruction for all skill levels, from absolute beginners to elite athletes. The range has been the starting point for numerous provincial and national champions who have achieved significant accolades in South African shooting sports.

Key Coaching Staff:

  • Hector MacLean: CTSASA Level One Club Coach.

  • Grant Rawlins: ISSF Shotgun D Coach specializing in Olympic disciplines.

Beyond regular practice, Eston is a major venue for high-stakes national tournaments and large-scale social events. Its integration with the broader Farmers Club allows for extensive catering, team-building packages, and event management services led by dedicated management staff.

Regular and Major Events:

  • South African FITASC Championship.

  • CTSASA KZN Open Championship and Chairman's Cup.

  • Annual festive social events such as the Christmas Shoot.

The facility is set in a picturesque landscape characterized by rolling hills and extensive sugar cane plantations. Shooters often encounter challenging environmental factors, including shifting wind conditions and high humidity, which provide a rigorous training environment for competitive athletes.

The club operates as a full-service leisure destination, offering a wide range of social and multi-sport infrastructure. This makes it an ideal location for families and corporate groups who can enjoy a variety of activities beyond the shooting range.

Infrastructure and Amenities:

  • On-site restaurant (The Kitchen) and a social Sports Bar.

  • Conference center and private function venues for weddings or corporate meetings.

  • Multi-sport facilities: Squash courts, tennis courts, and a cricket field equipped with night lights.

  • Dedicated camping site for visitors during multi-day events.
