The Guernsey Clay Target Shooting Club is the premier destination for clay pigeon shooting on the island, boasting a rich history that began in 1967 within an old granite quarry. As a member-run, non-profit organization, it caters to nearly 100 enthusiasts ranging from 13-year-old juniors to seasoned veterans in their 70s. The club operates primarily out of its newly renovated range at Portinfer, a stunning headland on the North West coast of Guernsey, known for its challenging maritime winds and scenic Atlantic views.

Range Locations and Disciplines

The club utilizes two distinct landscapes to provide a diverse shooting experience, featuring a wide array of disciplines:

  • Portinfer Range: The primary facility hosting English Skeet, ISU Skeet, Sporting, Sport Trap, Universal Trap, Olympic Trap, and Automatic Ballistic Trap (ABT).

  • South Coast Cliffs: A natural valley used several times a year for extreme "wild" sporting shoots that leverage the steep terrain.

  • Equipment: The facility is equipped with automated traps for consistent targets and maintains a fleet of club guns for visitors and group events.

Training and Induction Programs

Safety and skill development are central to the club's operations, requiring all prospective members to complete a mandatory induction course. This training covers range safety, etiquette, and the fundamentals of handling various shotgun types. For visitors already experienced in clay shooting, the club offers a welcoming environment on Sunday mornings where non-member rates apply, but club equipment remains available for hire.

Corporate and Private Group Packages

Between March and November, GCTSC opens its doors on Saturday mornings for specialized group events, including corporate team building, birthdays, and private parties. These sessions are led by experienced instructors who manage everything from safety briefings to scoring competitions.

  • Availability: Saturday mornings, typically starting at 09:30 am.

  • Inclusions: Instructor guidance, club gun hire, and 25 shots per participant.

  • Pricing: £50 per person with a minimum group spend of £500.

Key Benefits of the Club

The GCTSC stands out for its professional standards and unique geographical advantages:

  • Unique Terrain: Shooting over granite quarries and coastal valleys offers trajectories impossible to replicate on flat ground.

  • All-Weather Practice: The North West coast location provides realistic training against coastal wind conditions.

  • Community Atmosphere: A volunteer-led model ensures that fees are reinvested into range renovations and modern equipment.

  • Expert Supervision: Every group event is fully supervised to ensure safety for those with no prior license or experience.
