Brize Norton Gun Club (BNGC) was established in 1977, originally serving personnel at RAF Brize Norton before evolving into a prominent community-based organization for both military and civilian shooters. Located in the heart of the Cotswolds near Witney and Burford, the club is set within a unique 16-acre disused quarry. This distinctive setting provides a secluded and professional environment for clay pigeon shooting, making it a staple of the Oxfordshire shooting community.
The club is affiliated with the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) and specializes in English Sporting (ESP) as its primary discipline.
Core Shooting Disciplines:
English Sporting (ESP): 50-bird setups over 5 stands, with layouts changed regularly to ensure variety.
Trap & Skeet: Automatic Ball Trap (ABT), Down The Line (DTL), and Skeet are offered on alternate weeks.
Compact Pool Shoot: A 25-bird intensive format held on Wednesday evenings.
The 16-acre Worsham Quarry topography offers a natural advantage by shielding shooters from harsh winds and containing noise within its steep walls. This environment allows for diverse shooting layouts that accurately mimic real game conditions, such as high-flying birds and complex crossing angles. The club operates with an environmentally conscious approach, ensuring sustainable practices within the quarry's natural surroundings.
BNGC is a police-approved range, allowing individuals without a shotgun certificate to shoot under expert supervision. This accessibility makes it an ideal destination for novices and families. Professional coaching is available for all skill levels, from those picking up a gun for the first time to experienced shots looking to refine their technique.
The facility includes a clubhouse that serves as a social hub, providing hot food, tea, and coffee, particularly during Sunday sessions. On-site amenities include ample parking and a cartridge shop (Shotgun Certificate required for purchase). The club regularly hosts open competitions and social events, including an upcoming major 50th Anniversary Shoot scheduled for July 13, 2025.
